What’s your favorite thing about yourself?

One of my favorite things about myself is my extensive collection of books, both physical and digital, which I’ve curated over the years. Here’s why my libraries are so special to me:

My Bookshelves:

Diverse Collection

My bookshelves are a treasure trove of knowledge and inspiration. They house a wide range of genres and topics, from interior design and architecture books, modern and classical thrillers, coffee books and magazines, to fiction novels and historical biographies. Each book represents a different facet of my interests and passions.

Personal Growth

My books contribute immensely to my personal growth. Interior design and architecture books expand my creative horizons, offering fresh perspectives and innovative ideas for my projects. Thrillers and fiction novels, with their gripping narratives and complex characters, enhance my understanding of human nature and psychology. Historical biographies provide deep insights into the lives of influential figures, enriching my knowledge of history and the events that shaped the world. Coffee books and magazines offer a sensory journey into the world of coffee, enhancing my appreciation for this beloved beverage. Each book, regardless of genre, enriches my mind and life by broadening my knowledge, sparking new ideas, and fostering a deeper understanding of the world around me.

Aesthetic Pleasure

The vibrant colors and intricate designs of the book covers, the feel of the pages, and the arrangement on my shelves all contribute to creating a cozy, rich, and inspiring atmosphere in my home, assuring me that there are plenty of books to provide food for my grey cells, always. That’s a huge reassurance and comforting thought for a compulsive bibliophile like me.

Kindle with Coffee

My Kindle Library:

Convenience and Accessibility

My Kindle library is a digital sanctuary that allows me to carry hundreds of books with me wherever I go. It’s convenient for travel and perfect for reading in bed without disturbing Odin or my husband. The built-in light on my Kindle is perfect for my bedtime routine. It allows me to read late into the night without disturbing anyone, keeping me company with stories that transport me to different times and places.

Exploring New Authors and Genres

I love the thrill of discovering new authors and genres through my Kindle. It’s easy to sample new books and explore recommendations based on my reading history, opening up new literary worlds with just a tap.

Comfort and Relaxation

Curling up with my Kindle is one of my favorite ways to unwind. The best way to immerse is sitting on the kitchen slab at weekend nights, with my Kindle that provides the perfect escape into worlds or a portal to alternate realities filled with adventure, intrigue, and thrill. Sitting on the kitchen slab at night, indulging in the page-turning experiences of a good thriller in the dark, creates the perfect setting by capturing the essence od the dark side of human psychology, while having easy access to my at-home coffee bar.

Binge Reading:

Kindle books are great for binge reading during long weekends as they give me the rush to turn pages and reach the climax by the end of the weekend. The portability of the Kindle makes it easy to carry around the house or outside, allowing me to dive into my books anywhere, anytime. Recently, I finished “Abandon” by Blake Crouch on my last long weekend, while transitioning from “My Brilliant Friend” to the next, “The Story of a New Name” from the main series, “The Neapolitan Novels” by Elena Ferrante.

My Audible Collection:

On-the-Go Entertainment

My Audible collection is my ultimate enjoyment during long drive or commuting, or while doing some chores. It keeps my mind engaged and makes mundane tasks more enjoyable, turning everyday routines into opportunities for learning and entertainment.

Narration and Performance

The narrators in my Audible books bring stories to life with their expressive performances. This is particularly true with my valuable Poirot and Miss Marple collection. My husband and I earnestly listen to these stories. The characters and stories spring to life as if happening near us. We spend hours on Sunday nights listening to these collections and often watch the Poirot and Miss Marple episodes for further enjoyment, dissecting the characters, performances, and storytelling of Agatha Christie.

Continuous Storytelling

With Audible, I can immerse myself in great books with amazing storytelling and immersive experiences, ranging from modern science thrillers like “Upgrade” by Blake Crouch to classic thriller collections by Agatha Christie, and novels like “The Fountainhead” by Ayn Rand to biographies like “American Prometheus” by Kai Bird, and many more!

All in All, My Prized Possessions

My bookshelves, Kindle library, and Audible collection aren’t just sources of entertainment—they’re a reflection of my curiosity, passions, and love for great storytelling. Each book, whether physical or digital, holds the promise of discovery, inspiration, and relaxation, making them my prized possessions that I have been collecting for years—thus, making them my favorite things about myself. They provide me with endless opportunities to learn, escape, and explore, all from the comfort of my home or on-the-go.
